SRĐAN ŠAROVIĆ
Interdisciplinary Artist and Art Theorist

Srđan Šarović (b. 1972, Novi Sad, Serbia) is an interdisciplinary artist and art theorist whose work develops at the intersection of contemporary art, philosophy, design, digital media, film, music, and generative systems. Working across multiple forms and formats, he has built a practice grounded equally in artistic production and conceptual inquiry, with a particular focus on the ontology of the artwork, the logic of artistic making, and the relation between medium, form, and meaning.

He holds both a BA and an MA in New Visual Media from the Academy of Arts at the University of Novi Sad. In 2021, he completed a PhD in Fine Arts at the same institution with the doctoral art project The Principle of Negation as the Method of Artwork Creation – Apophatics and Negative Light. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. Alongside his artistic practice, he has published and presented extensively in the fields of aesthetics, philosophy of art, digital art, and NFT-related theory.

Since 1994, Šarović has developed a wide-ranging professional trajectory spanning fine art, drawing, painting, video, animation, music, performance, design, visual identity, branding, web projects, art direction, video editing, and creative production. His work moves fluently between autonomous artistic research and applied creative practice, bringing together conceptual rigor, visual intelligence, and technical execution across diverse media environments.

A central feature of Šarović’s work is the sustained effort to connect theory and making at the level of principle. Rather than approaching philosophy as an external framework applied to art, he treats artistic creation itself as a mode of thought and as a site of knowledge. This orientation informs both his theoretical writing and his practical work, including drawing, moving image, sound-based projects, and generative art. In recent years, his research has increasingly engaged questions of digital ontology, the identity of the artwork in technologically mediated environments, and the status of generative and NFT-based artistic forms.

Šarović has led or contributed to more than one hundred projects and has collaborated with over sixty clients across the cultural and creative industries. His work has been presented through solo and group exhibitions, international festivals, conferences, film screenings, educational programs, and interdisciplinary collaborations. This breadth of experience reflects a long-term continuity of practice: a sustained commitment to building meaningful relations between artistic invention, critical reflection, and professional realization.

Whether working on an artwork, a theoretical text, a visual system, a film, a musical form, or a generative structure, Šarović’s practice remains centered on the constructive conditions of the work itself: how it comes into being, what kind of order sustains it, and how artistic form may become a mode of understanding.
